International Collaboration Bangalore, India & Santiago de Chile
Together with researchers from Bangalore, India and our collaboration partner Francisco Parada in Santiago de Chile, we explore how the urban environment influences the emotions of its residents by using the “Your Emotional City”-App. To do this, we use our app and approach the participants directly - using qualitative research, we collect exploratory insights, where real life happens.
We will use the findings to identify individual factors for Bangalore and also compare them cross-culturally.
Bangalore, known as Bengaluru, is the capital of Karnataka and one of India’s most dynamic and fast-growing cities. Often called the “Silicon Valley of India", Bangalore is a leading center for the country's IT industry, with a thriving tech and startup scene that draws talent from across India and around the world. The city is also renowned for its educational and research institutions, cultural diversity, and vibrant arts and music scenes.
On an urban level, Bangalore faces the dual challenges of rapid urbanization and infrastructure strain, with traffic congestion, water scarcity, and waste management being prominent issues. Despite these challenges, the city is known for its green spaces, with iconic parks like Cubbon Park and Lalbagh Botanical Garden offering a natural retreat amid urban sprawl. Socially, Bangalore has become a melting pot of cultures and a hub for progressive movements, particularly in environmental activism and LGBTQ+ rights, underscoring its role as a forward-thinking and socially conscious urban center in India.

Santiago de Chile
Santiago, the capital of Chile, is a vibrant and diverse city nestled in a valley surrounded by the Andes Mountains. As the country's cultural, political, and economic hub, Santiago plays a crucial role in shaping Chilean society. The city is home to nearly seven million people, making it the most populous urban center in Chile.
Santiago's urban landscape is a blend of colonial architecture, modern skyscrapers, and sprawling neighborhoods, reflecting both its rich history and rapid modernization. On a social level, Santiago is a focal point for cultural and political movements, including environmental activism and social equity campaigns.
As one of Latin America's most advanced urban centers, Santiago faces challenges such as inequality, pollution, and housing shortages, making it a key battleground for urban reform and social justice in Chile.
